The Empress Thoth Tarot

The Empress Imagery

Surrounded by vegetation and nature, the Empress holds a lotus scepter. Pregnant, her belt around her waist is inscribed with the zodiac, and her arms bend to create the glyph of Salt (and as if to hold a child to be born). To the right a shield bares a double-headed eagle, a swan feeding its young appears to the left.

The Empress Associations

  • Tree of Life Path: #14—Chokmah to Binah
  • Planetary Trump: Venus
  • Hebrew Letter: Daleth (“Door”)

Path #14: Kether to Chokmah

The sephirah of emanating force connecting to the sephirah of emanating form.

By exploring path #14, we understand the deeper meanings of The Empress. As Daleth suggests, she is a doorway for the unborn. By passing through her, the mother, she gives birth to new life. The spirit (Chokmah) is placed into the body (Binah) and given passage into the world under the eyes of The Empress. This makes her role profound, and illuminates The Priestess’s role (who holds the secrets for creating life) as they cross paths on the tree of life.

The Empress Interpretations

All things maternal. She is surrounded by nature. She is in ways mother to The Fool, mother to us, and gives life to the dying and love to the wounded. When this card appears it may imply creation, nurturing back to health, or love.

The Bees on the robe may be compared with the Fleur de Lys, suggesting the French origin of the symbol; the belt is the Zodiac. The Pelican may be identified with the Great Mother and her offspring. It represents the continuity of life and inheritance of blood uniting all forms of nature. The White Eagle typifies Alchemical Salt, and the White Tincture, of the nature of silver.” 5

“Venus. Daleth. The Empress is seated in teh traditional posture symbolising alchemical Salt. This is woman in her all-embracing receptivity, incarnate womanhood, holding the lotus, wearing the belt of the Zodiac, surrounded by her Venus birds, the pelican of self-surrender and the heraldic white eagle of salt.” 5

Axank’s Dream Recall

July 19-28, 2014
I could use balloons to float. I drifted from place to place—I remember a building with open walls… I descended on a house. From the skylight on the roof, I could see down a beautiful woman. I would sneak in and pleasure her in weird ways, such as scraping legos on her skin. She liked it. Her boyfriend was a total meat head and disliked me for what I had done. I thought his anger was humorous considering he looked like a defensive jock. He came at me and I used martial arts. I used balloons to get onto the roof. There I found a man who looked like a friend of mine, he showed me to a bench on the ground where his friend was. I really wanted to go to another place with them—to start my life over. We hovered through the neighborhood streets. Both the guys said their names were “sammy” and that this was “sammy” club—I was so mad and disappointed my friend wasn’t who I thought it was.

Family gathering in a cramped and suspended classroom with the tightest staircase that led to the rest of the building.

My Landlord was visiting—she was much younger (in 50s?) had blonde hair in a ponytail. She was being real sweet and went around the house talking/helping fix things. It made me feel a lot better (was actually my childhood home, not my current one).

The last dream, of my landlord fixing our broken home and doing so in kind ways makes me feel like I was almost visited by The Empress.
