Ten of Cups Thoth Tarot

Ten of Cups Imagery

Ten ‘tipsy’ cups set in an arrangement of the Tree of Life, overflow with fullness. The background is somewhat harsh due to Mars’ presence.

Ten of Cups Associations

  • Formula: Malkuth of Briah + Mars in Pisces = “Satiety”
  • Numeric: Completion, Mastery
  • Elemental: Mutable Water
  • Decan of the Zodiac: 20º-30º Pisces (March 11-March 20)
  • Sephira: Malkuth “Kingdom”
  • Ruled by the Queen of Wands

Ten of Cups Interpretations

The ten of cups is absolutely fulfilling. The cups overflow with satisfaction. This abundance will last you for more than you need which means there is not only security in this abundance (knowing it will be there when you need it) but this can be extended. With everything in its place, filled to the brim, it is possible that there’s too much going on here. This extendible energy can also indicate exhaustion but it is at a level of nothing further, being the 10 of cups.

In correlation with the Tree of Life—I’ve learned about the purity of element of the minor number cards as they progress from 1 to 10. The Ace, a symbol of the element in its purity, and the 10 as a symbol of manifestation with utmost complexity and composition containing just a teaspoon of all previous 9 cards within its brew.

Additional Interpretations

“Matter settled: complete good fortune. Permanent and lasting success and happiness, because inspired from above. Not so sensual as ‘Lord of Material Happiness,’ yet almost more truly happy. Pleasure, dissipation, debauchery, quietness, peacemaking. Kindness, pity, generosity, wantonness, waste, etc., according to dignity.” 6

“Satiety. Pursuit of pleasure crowned with perfect success but incomplete. Matters arranged and settled as wished. Lasting success. Peacemaking and generosity. Ill-dignified: Dissipation. Debauchery. Pity. Waste. Stagnation.” 5

“Satiety. Malkuth in the suit of Water. Mars in Pisces. The Cups are arranged as in the Tree of Life, but they are unstable and spill the water from the great Lotus that hangs over them. This typifies the disruptive and violent force which inevitable, attacks every supposed perfection.” 5

“Satiety. Mars in Pisces. Malkuth. The cups are arranged on the Tree of Life and a great lotus overshadows them. Exhaustion which comes from expended energy, is expressed.” 5

Axank’s Dream Recall

November 07-11, 2013
I had a boatload of dreams the final night, but here are the ones I think are relevant:

I was out traveling with some friends and was at a bar at the hotel. I was sitting at a table with strangers, all significantly older men, who were handsome and nice to me. We talked about trivial things, but it was pleasant; I was with 2 or 3 other friends. There was a bedding/couch area where we had fallen asleep watching TV. I woke up not knowing what time or day it was. Having lost track of time, I had missed class and work.

I find that these are almost the two sides of the card. That at first, it’s very pleasant, social and emotional connections are wholesome and fulfilling. But it can also be too much, and we may drown in the illusion and desensitizing mist of it all. Maybe from drinking too much, maybe from sleeping too much, but as a result I lost control because there was too much.
