Nine of Swords Thoth Tarot

Nine of Swords Imagery

It rains tears upon nine chipped and battle-worn blades. The swords drip poisoned-blood from their rustic blades. The pinwheel motif has been reduced to just a scraggly black outline and expresses the weary-teariness of the situation.

Nine of Swords Interpretations

I’ve always associated this card with fear and the exaggerated thoughts that would keep one from sleeping at night. I think it could go as far as mental illness, depression. Clouded vision, obscure facts, and the inclusive emotions that come with these conditions.

I find this card to be directed more at the mind or heart of the querent, rather than the situation they may be in—though it depends on card placement/context.

Additional Interpretations

“Illness, suffering, malice, cruelty, pain. Despair, cruelty, pitilessness, malice, suffering, want, loss, misery. Burden, oppression, labour, subtlety and craft, dishonesty, lying and slander. Yet also obedience, faithfulness, patience, unselfishness, etc. According to dignity.” 6

“Cruelty. Agony of mind. Despair. Hopelessness. Worry. Suffering. Loss. Illness. Malice. Pain. Burden. Oppression. Subtlety and craft. Lying. Shame. Well-dignified: Obedience. Faithfulness. Patience. Unselfishness.” 5

“Cruelty. Yesod in the suit of Air. Mars in Gemini. The nine Swords are of different lengths, pointing downwards, poison blood drips from their jagged points. The background is studded with tears and crystal forms. In this card intellect is replaced by heartless passion.” 5

“Cruelty. Mars in Gemini. Yesod. These jagged swords are dropping blood and tears, and represent mind dominated by insatiable desires.” 5

Axank’s Dream Recall

April 14-15, 2014
I was explaining Second Life to my family or roommates; I slept on a trampoline in my backyard and a wild furry creature curled up in my neck/shoulder. Confused and creeped out after I pulled him off it was a cat/lemur who I then took in as a pet; I was doing martial arts with my two teachers and grand master when one of the masters from up north came to help teach as well. We were all in this big luxurious mansion.

There were elements of unknown/discomfort in some of these dreams including ones not listed here.
