Four of Swords Thoth Tarot

Four of Swords Imagery

Four swords create an equal-armed cross and point at the center of a rose. Their stiff composure and formality suggest integrity in their message of peace after war.

Four of Swords Associations

  • Formula: Chesed of Yetzirah + Jupiter in Libra = “Truce”
  • Numerical: Stability, Order
  • Elemental: Cardinal Air
  • Decan of the Zodiac: 20º—30º Libra (October 13—October 22)
  • Sephira: Chesed “Mercy”
  • Ruled by the Prince of Cups

Four of Swords Interpretations

Rest, recovery, and not really relaxation. This isn’t a vacation, you were just injured by the 3 of swords and time is offering you a moment to recover. Hospitalization and even a state of meditation. Pulling yourself together. Compare Saturn in the 3 of Swords, hard-ass and severe, to Jupiter in the 4 of Swords, forgiving and generous. Truce indicates an agreed condition where boundaries are set and respected.

Additional Interpretations

“Settlement, arrangement, completion. Perfection or completion of a thing built up with trouble and labour. Rest after labour, subtlety, cleverness, beauty, mirth, success in completion. Reasoning faculty, conclusions drawn from previous knowledge. Unreadiness, unreliable and unsteady through over-anxiety and hurriedness of action. Graceful in manner, at times insincere, etc.” 6

“Truce. Rest from sorrow. Peace after war. Relaxation of anxiety. Refuge from mental chaos. Recovery from sickness. Change fro the better after struggle. Authority in the intellectual world. Convention. Establishment of dogma.” 5

“Truce. Chesed in the suit of Ar. Jupiter in Libra. The four swords in this card are at the corner of a St. Andrew’s Cross. Their points are sheathed in  arose of forty-nine petals. This represents the establishment of dogma and convention in the realm of intellect.” 5

“Truth [Truce]. Jupiter in Libra. Chesed. The formality of the design of the swords, the cross, and the rose denote intellect bound by rigid convention. The surrounding crystals, as in all these sword cards, contain the hidden names of their guardian angels worked out in numbers on squared paper. It was thought that air was formed of crystals according to Pythagoras.” 5

Axank’s Dream Recall

March 04-06, 2014
I crafted a tomahawk; I had an alcoholic beverage and was driving around and felt paranoid I’d get caught. I pulled over and walked through a shopping center and fast-food restaurant with it. I suppose I was on vacation but didn’t really know where I was going or where I was supposed to be; I was preparing for a hiking or camping trip.

These dreams are a bit over the place but the two parts that stand out are the Tomahawk and camping trips because to me they are a symbol of preparation (somewhat similar to recovery in an inverted sense) and the axe resonates with the symbol of the sword.
