Five of Swords Thoth Tarot

Five of Swords Imagery

Five different swords bend together and meet in the center. A red rose has been torn apart and the petals form an inverted pentagram with the hilt of each sword forming each point. Abstract shapes which appear similar to wind-mills or swastikas chaotically fill the space.

Five of Swords Interpretations

Defeat by outside forces. The Five of Swords signifies the course of the flowing river is stronger than your ability to swim. Forces beyond your control. Losing a battle. Venus doesn’t appreciate the crudeness of Geburah, and Aquarius’ emotional detachment gives way to a heartless blade swinging about the querent. This card suggests the Querent give up and submit to the opposition or loss instead of struggling to gain dominance. Do not run in fear, but try and cut your losses and retain your composure as best as you are able.

“Defeat. Geburah in the suit of Air. Venus in Aquarius. The ornamental hilts of the Swords form a hexagon in the card. Their points touch the outer petals of the red rose upon a Golden Cross of six squares. The perfect balance of mental and moral faculties, hardly won and impossible to hold, interprets the idea of Science.” 5

“Defeat. Venus in Aquarius. Geburah. The swords form an inverted pentagram. They are crooked and broken and the roses are falling. The condition shown is intellect weakened by sentiment.” 5

Axank’s Dream Recall

March 12-13, 2014
My friend worked at a fast food joint so we went to go visit him. We could eat anything we wanted to—later I went to take a bus home, but ended up missing my classes. The moon was huge, and a brilliant Mars red. Back at high school there was an event that had us out in the football field. When we returned to the campus the faculty had tarped and covered everything in dirt. It was supposed to be “apocalyptic”. There were these holes in the ground that were tunnels like a labyrinth but also on multiple levels. I ended up running into other students until we all grouped up together. The group started getting big and rowdy and uncontrollable. My friend was drunk and prancing around, my grandparents were watching from a fare and I didn’t want to show PDA if they were going to see it.

A couple things here, such as not being able to travel to my destination in time (that’s pretty defeating, right?); The scene of an apocalypse carries the gravity of the 5 of swords but what makes it really interesting is that the faculty were simulating this scene and it was a ‘test-run’, I wonder if the 5 of swords is really just a test for what’s to come; A rowdy crowd that cannot be controlled.
